May is "Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month" in the LACCD

This news release comes from our District offices:

"Information about the Los Angeles Community College District’s (LACCD) nine colleges and its free-tuition program are now available in Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese as a result of a recent special meeting chaired by Board of Trustees President Mike Fong with representatives of the region’s Asian-Pacific Islander (API) community.

"The LACCD brochures, The Power of Nine and The Power of the Promise, provide overviews on the colleges and Los Angeles College Promise Program that offers free first-year tuition to all first-time, full-time students at the District’s nine colleges. About 10 percent of the District’s student population, roughly 23,500 students, identify as being Asian-Pacific Islander. The District also employs about 500 full-time personnel of Asian-Pacific Islander ancestry.

“Los Angeles’ API community continues to grow and we want to make sure we understand, and address, their needs while strengthening our services to them at our nine colleges,” President Fong said. “We’ve translated these documents and we’ll continue to expand our efforts to help them achieve their college and career goals.”  In April, Trustees Scott Svonkin and Ernest Moreno presented a resolution (scroll to Section F on the left-side menu) declaring May as “Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month.'"
