Arguably the most important discussion our campus community will hold...

My thanks go to College Council for their foresight in supporting the development of a "think tank" to fully explore the implications of becoming an environmentally sustainable campus.  This decision is the result of an excellent presentation made by Dr. Jennifer Cole (Sciences) and Dr. Walter Jones (Dean) regarding sustainability as a social justice imperative and the importance of our educating our students to address a challenge that has been called the greatest existential crisis of our lifetime.

Dr. Cole has already sent a message to campus soliciting the interest of faculty, staff, and students to participate in the "think tank" that has as its charge (1) the identification of challenges and opportunities and (2) the submittal of a recommendation for institutionalizing the pursuit of full campus sustainability (e.g., standing committee as part of the participatory governance process).

By the way, the College is already a member of the Association for Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education.

If you are interested in this very important topic and want to be part of the movement, please contact Dr. Cole.

(As a refresher, take a look at the Seven Questions I posed about sustainability in an earlier blog post--September 30, as well as introduction to the importance of the College embracing sustainability, published August 23).
